Royce Bowman
“I fell in love with the concept of physical therapy, first of all, because I enjoy teaching. I teach patients how to do certain exercises or perform certain functions. I teach parents about their child's injury or why they have a recurring problem. You're not only teaching, but you're also guiding and helping people get back to their quality of life.”
- Royce Bowman, PT, Director of Operations

Education

Royce Bowman earned a B.S. in Kinesiology from Ball State University, a Masters in Human Performance and Exercise Physiology from University of Houston Clear Lake. Later, he earned a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Texas Woman's University in Houston.  Also, he is certified for dry needling treatment in Texas.

Given his educational background, Royce excels at treating any types of orthopedic injury or post-op surgery.  However, his areas of specialty are knees and shoulders.

As he entered into a human performance and exercise physiology masters program, 30 hours of observation in a sports medicine facility changed his career path.

He says, “I fell in love with the concept of physical therapy, first of all, because I enjoy teaching. I teach patients how to do certain exercises or perform certain functions. I teach parents about their child's injury or why they have a recurring problem. You're not only teaching but you're guiding and helping people get back to their quality of life.”

Treatment Approach

As director of operations, Royce and his staff promote an upbeat and positive environment. He reminds staff that patients are in therapy for high quality treatment and pain relief, and deserve an overall pleasant experience.

For 22 years, Royce always takes a holistic approach to treatment. When a patient presents with an upper or lower extremity problem, the whole chain of joints get analyzed.

For example, with a knee issue, Royce assesses the foot, ankle, hip and lumbo-pelvic area.

When prescribing exercises to correct a biomechanical problem, specificity is the key.

Philosophy

His philosophy means looking at not just the patient's immediate problem. He looks at the patient as a whole to identify other contributing factors.

Royce believes in using modalities to treat the patient’s symptoms provided they help unlock the pathway to resolving the primary pathology.

Based on the comprehensive evaluation, a treatment plan will be formulated to meet the specific needs of each patient.

This could mean returning to competitive or leisure sports, a job requiring physical labor or sitting at a computer all day. Royce makes sure to rehabilitate each patient completely and appropriately.

Adapting to Patients

When asked about profound things he’s learned as a therapist, Royce says, “Adapting to the patient is number one.”

He adds, “Having played sports myself, I am interested in the sports medicine aspect of physical therapy. My background experiences of working in factories and foundries help me relate to the blue collar worker. Yet, as a business owner, I can just as easily identify with professionals and CEO’s. No matter who receives treatment, I get great satisfaction in alleviating their pain and restoring their full physical capacity and ability to function normally.”
